Tam Coc

We started the day with Jehan being brave and doing a solo hike to the White Dragon. It sat at the top of a large mountain. The hike was full of narrow and crumbling steps.

You know me, I avoided it :) but, luckily there was a lovely sort of botanical garden with trees, ponds, sculptures and a large rice field to explore.

Next, we did a little boat tour. Which turned out to be a VIP boat tour. (This is one of the only perks of traveling as a plus size person). It was Jehan and I + the lady who rowed the boat. She was very funny.

The experience was a little uncomfortable, because the people who rowed the boats seemed to find my size funny. Getting in or out of the boat, we would hear little chuckles. But our lady was very kind and always made sure to hold the boat tightly against the stairs with Jehan, in order for me to get on and off safely. Once Jehan and I were settled onto the boat, she would jokingly say ‘Bye bye’ and wave to us while our boat started to float away slightly, she would jump on.

She must have been the strongest little old lady that we had ever met, to be able to row us around for 3 hours. But we did our best to help with the extra paddles provided.

We went through several caves of difference lengths. She navigated the boat like a pro. We visited a few temples, seeing many offerings. We enjoyed the peaceful paths down the river and the surrounding nature. We even saw the mountain where they filmed ‘King Kong’, it was smaller than I expected.

All in all, we had a very productive day.
